Kutztown Police Called to Protect the Borough

Kutztown Police Called to Protect the Borough

On Friday March 7, 2008 I delivered my usual letter to the Borough Hall for distribution and while I was there asked to see the 2006 or 2007 Budget. The clerk at the counter said she would go and get Borough Manager\Treasurer Vettraino and found he was not in his office. Assistant Treasurer Samilo came to the counter and gave me the Proposed 2008 Budget. I stated the 2008 has estimated figures and I want to see the actual figures from 2006 and 2007. Council President Malcolm Eidle was standing at the counter and I asked him to see either of the Budgets. He stated Mr. Vettraino wasn’t in and therefore it was not available. I told Mr. Eidle the Borough Code states the Budget shall be available to the public during normal office hours and he stated he could not go behind the counter to get it. I told Mr. Long of the Borough’s independent Auditor Firm of Long and Barrell who was present that the Budget should be available and he stated he had nothing to do with it. Mr. Long later on laughed because he thought my asking for the Budget was funny. Mr. Eidle raised his voice and I raised my voice and a secretary called the Police. Requesting the finances of the Borough strikes fear in the hearts of our Borough Officials. The Borough Police were called to protect the Borough from a 78 year old heart patient who had a heart bypass operation in 1983 (4 arteries) and another heart bypass operation in 2000 (6 arteries) and in between had 2 heart attacks and 6 angioplasties including a stent. By the way I WAS NEVER SHOWN THE BUDGET.

Calling the Police was just another attempt to silence me and therefore not reveal the true finances of the Borough. I asked if the 2006 Budget was audited and advertised and did not receive an answer. This is a concerted effort by the Borough Council, Mayor Green, Manager\Treasurer Vettraino, ITD Caruso, Solicitors Mooney and Dietrich and Independent Auditor Long & Barrell to keep the Borough’s Finances, especially Hometown Utilicom, from the public in every way they can.

I will continue to demand open books and records. In fact my website

www.marinoreport.com will be advertised in the Patriot and The Merchandiser for the next two weeks. Jerry

Hay little man: Just so you know, i followed up on this and went to the borough office today and asked for copies of the 2006 and 2007 budgets. I was told no problem, and i had them within 60 seconds. No fighting, no fuss, just the facts. Perhaps if you took the sore loser chip off of your shoulders (36 votes if i recall correctly) you might see things more clearly, and you may also find yourself getting better cooperation when you ask for something in a mannerly way. Give it up old man, and please, just go away. Mark Dietrich.

Hey you dumb fuck. Those reports ARE for everyone, everyone except dumb little fat wops like you who can not read or write or speak our language. I hope Mac Eidle kicks your ass to the curb the next time you meet, you little coward. G. LaFaver

Mayor,

The vitriol filled comments of some of our more
challenged citizens further emboldens your case.

We're all behind you mayor, soon the entire council
will be voted out, along with the ineffectual mayor
Sandy Green.

We're all sick and tired of corrupt officials at all
levels of government.

Thank you for alerting the public to the ongoing
criminal activity at 45 Railroad Street.

To: Mr. Spinach Pie. I notice you do not use your real name when you write. Must be a reason. Perhaps you are the cowardly or stupid type of that Marino ilk. Do you honestly believe that every thing he says is true? If there was even just 1% of truth to what he says, it would be all over the newspapers, and local TV, because that is the very thing they like to report about. You would have the FBI, and the Berks county office of sheriff, and our state government crawling all over this. Any public entity that is run on taxpayers money is subject to the closest of scrutiny and audits, just as the Kutztown Borough has been, lo these many years. Get a grip, ASSHOLE!

I am writing to the person who responded to Mr. Spinach Pie,
It is interesting to note that as you criticize the above writer for writing anonymously, you yourself are guilty of exactly the same deed. Unfortunately, local governments are not held in check by the media, and in many cases it requires the attention of a few diligent citizens to bring to light injustices that can occur at the most invisible level of government: local. I would also point out that with complete assurity, the FBI isn't in the buisness of investigating the 2007 Kutztown Borough Budget, and whether or not our taxpayer money has been misappropriated. Oftentimes, as it has been seen, the burden of enforcing morality on public officals can fall to the quiet invisible questioning few; the ones who do not simply accept what happens, but question whether it could have been done better, or to a higher standard. I'm sure you don't need me to remind you of all the occasions in history this has held true. I would like to also congratulate Mr. Marino, not for exposing some cover-up and not for fixing anything in this town, but for every time one of his opponents angrily posts against him, because in journalism, 'half the battle is being heard', and Jerry, you've already won that half.
