Right to Know Law Request August 22, 2008 to the Borough of Kutztown
1) What is the status of the Business Plan for HU that was voted on at the March Borough Council Meeting?
2) What is the status of the $1.3 million loan for HU that was to be spent as per the Business Plan? This loan was also discussed at the March Council Meeting and was a condition for Mayor Green’s signing the HU $1.3 million Loan Resolution.
3) I would like to see the Contract between Hometown Utilicom and the Apex Development located in Maxatawny Township.
4) I would like to see the number of potential subscribers this contract will add to HU.

Dog gone it Gerry, you waited to long Friday to turn in your request. Now I have to wait until Monday to call and get the facts.
At least give me time to ask the questions to the right people. Why wait until 4pm on Friday afternoon to parade in your request?
I know, I know, you are now going to claim that it took a week to get your written answer.
Unfortunately for you, I will publish the answer probably by Monday afternoon.
Phone calls work much faster to the right people if you really want the answer.
Here is what I do know from the Council Meeting. HU has signed a long term agreement to serve the APEX complex television and internet services. There are 21 or 22 buildings on the site and 185 units. I think someone said three bedrooms per unit, not sure. Since this is in Maxatawny Township, a phone call to them would get the answer as well. I was also told, by more than one person, that Mayor Green almost threw this opportunity away for HU. Why would a Mayor of a community do something like this to hurt the community and its revenue stream? Gerry, you are an expert in this area, please shed some light on this for all of us.
Of course, you do know APEX is also served by Kutztown for water and sewer services.
One tenant did say APEX built a wireless facility for the complex to serve Internet, I would imagine HU had something to do with that.
Point of clarification, I don't think the HU study is a business plan. In reading the past minutes it looks like this is a study of HU and recommendations. If memory serves me correctly, this was planned for September after KU is back in session, makes sense.
A business plan is much more detailed and requires more than a few dollars to create and more time. Personally, HU does not need a business plan to sell services to a community who's demographics are primarily tenant rentals and 1.5 square miles of service area, and a known market. If prices are lower, customers purchasing services have a place to go for immediate service and support, the services improve the quality of life for a community (not left behind like others) and the most important feature, the removal of one more monopoly, why waste the funds on a business plan that will tell you the same? Instead, the funds should have been used to add more High Definition Channels, or build a wireless solution at the park. At some point in time intelligence will kick in and the waste of funds to appease loud mouths and those with personal political agendas will disappear, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Have not noticed anywhere in the minutes the approval to spend the 1million frozen by Mayor Green, so my guess is, its still there.
Curious Gerry, since Mayor Green is following your path, do you meet weekly for coffee and canoli to discuss agendas?
Monday I will have more answers to your questions.
There are faster ways to get answers Gerry.
