Budgets
Reading Budget about $68,800,000 spending about $860 per resident
Reading population about 80,000
Fleetwood Budget less than $2,000,000 spending about $500 per resident
Fleetwood Population about 4,000
Kutztown Budget about $21,000,000 spending about $4,200 per resident
Kutztown population about 5,000
Will someone please verify my figures and comment on them. This is not algebra or mathematics this is arithmetic. Do you think we have wild spending in the Borough? Mayor Green, the Borough Council, and other responsible Borough Officials are obligated to explain why the spending per resident is very much higher in our Borough which is almost 5 times as much per resident in Reading, and more than 8 times as much per resident in Fleetwood. Maybe they should consult with the retired High School teacher who lives in the Borough and praises Hometown Utilicom and the Borough finances at Council Meetings.

Mr. Marino. You have made hundreds of accusations on your blog without one shred of substantial proof to back them up. You have had ample time to do so, and you still renege on your promises to show something substantial as evidence to back up any charges. Will you please explain? Thank you. Concerned citizen.
To the anonymous comment of Dec. 29th. You are wasting your time. Mr. Marino has had years to provide the evidence required to back his claims. He has never and will never do so. H. Delp
Forget about it. This sniveling coward has nothing to tell but lies. Don`t you seriously think for just one moment that if he had any proof of his allegations, he would be just too happy to show it? He has operated on speculation and lies since he came to our town, all because of his demented belief that he is so much smarter than we dumb hicks. Now sit back and look what has happened to this miserable soul. He is a loner, unloved, and miserable. There is no cure for what ails him. He will eventually just fade away. Let us all hope that this day comes sooner than later. Robert Leiby, Kutztown.
Mr. Leiby,
You're right, you're really brilliant. The borough is very fiscally responsible and Hometown will be a huge success!
Where can I buy stock in Hometown? I'm soooo glad our tax dollars are being dumped into this thing. It's so great!
I'm sure if the borough went around and asked all the taxpayers if they'd like the council members to run/manage a high speed communications company everyone would jump for joy.
Who needs improved roads, schools, libraries, police and fire protection?
I think it's great that we've elected (or at least partially elected as most council members were appointed) a group of entrepreneurs rather than public service officials. after all, public officials are so boring....Hometown may end up losing all the taxpayers money, but it sooo exciting!
I can't wait to see what happens next.

Dear Robert Leiby,
Wow, what a nice comment for a DEACON to make Mr. Leiby. Glad you practice what you preach over there at St. John's. Forgiveness, love, hurling insults and wishing hateful things to people in your community.
You are the sad, hypocritical person....and a completely wrong one at that. Lots of people love Jerry!
To the anonymous commenter: I am the OTHER Robert Leiby. Get your shit straight, idiot!
To Jesus guy ... You say lots of people love Jerry. Yup, all 36 of those that voted for him at the last mayoral election. Lots of people loved Hitler too, but eventually that number was depleted. You just keep on riding that lame horse, fool!
I hear Hometown is bidding for the University Television Services. How can this be possible without Gerry's expertise to lead the way or his blessing? After all he knows all. (At least he thinks he does).
Gerry, you better write before they issue a response. The Attorney General, CIA, FBI, Boy Scouts, girl Scouts, Bankrupt VFW (you were treasurer weren't you?) , after all, it must be illegal that HU is knocking heads with Service Electric, again. Right Gerry?
Where's the business plan??????? Gerry, how can you let them get away with this?
Has anyone watched the recent Planning Commission fiasco on HU TV? These losers are a joke. They talk about some gold mine in grants to be had by those making application. What world are these losers living in? The state has rescinded grants for highways, state student loans and other funding. It takes 3 to 4 years to be awarded a grant of any substance, I have done this for years and it is NOT s simple, quick, get free money as the Planning Commission would like people to believe.
There is committee member Milt Kern talking about hiring a grant writer and then making claim " I took the grant writing course", how ridiculous this is. This is why the Borough cannot progress. Here are people that believe "only they can do the job, they are the experts". When THEY don't get their way or THEY do not have there opinions accepted, THEY claim to be the experts to make "things right". (No personal motivation for attention here)
Marino is not the ONLY problem in Kutztown. If you are a concerned citizen, go to a Planning Commission Meeting and listen to these jokers, then ask them to RESIGN!!.
One of these idiots wants an air study done on the foundry. Think for one minute what the impact would be if the foundry pulled up stakes? That's all the time you can afford to think about this, ONE MINUTE!.
Kutztown needs smarter, educated volunteers to join committees such as the Planning Commission, the jokers on the committee today are exactly that, JOKERS!. They cannot find a direction, make intelligent decisions, and the leadership of the committee needs to go back to school.
Wake up Kutztown, the LUNATICS are out and attempting to take over. Time to stop these JOKERS.

To annonymous. Are you kidding! that's the next Mayor and Council. This time Gerry will be President Marino! Mayor Kern, scary thoughts.(oh oh, I hope Gerry is friends with the tombstone inscriber so his current stone can be changed)
Go for for it LUNATICS! You deserve what you ask for.
I read an interesting article by the Editor of The Reading Eagle regarding Hometown Utilicom. No doubt I will cancel my subscription tomorrow.
Here we have a person making at least $100,000 per year that pays $180 per month for television and internet and of course he can afford to do so. He criticizes Hometown and efforts to create competition and lower the rates so people making $45,000 per year can afford the same services as the Editor. What about those on fixed incomes?
Maybe the answer is a society where you pay your fair share. The Editor making $100,000 should pay $180 for TV and Internet and the $45,000 family should pay $90. Sounds fair to me. This should hold true for all services including electric, refuse, water, sewer, golf courses, car washes and even groceries.
The Editor fails to mention the lower rates to Kutztown residents. He side steps this by stating, "set aside the lower cost". He fails to mention the value of competition and he fails to mention the companies Hometown uses to provide services, products and support services. Hometown employs people as well as sub-contractors.
President Obama was elected because people want change. If President Obama decides to build a factory and employ 500 people, is this wrong because it competes? What about the suppliers, vendors, employees it now provides an income for?. What about the profit that can be put back into a town for Police? None of these items are mentioned in the article.
To many private companies want government hand-outs, and we have seen the value in this, RIGHT!. As long as free money is provided, that's Ok. It will be interesting when the government will be called upon to bail out The Reading Eagle!
When I write my check for television and internet and it is written to my "own" company, at least I know how the money is working for me. Those of you writing your checks to service electric Birdsboro, or Allentown or Comcast Reading, how do you feel about your money going to a company not paying for your police, park, or road services?
A retired employee of the Borough made a statement downing Hometown, why do the Borough employees think Hometown is different than electric, refuse or water? PPL & MetEd can provide the electric to Kutztown, Waste Management and a number of others can perform refuse services, A private water company can provide water and sewer services. These services are no different than cable television, internet and even a golf course.
Television companies have a monopoly in most areas they serve. This has been done for years and very few will cross the boundary line. Where do you see Comcast and Service Electric operating in the same area? You won't.
I hope the people of Kutztown continue to set the pace and lead other communities in a direction to remove taxes as the core base of revenue. Communities are strapped and if you are going to pay for services, write the check the company who resides in your zip-code and listens to what you have to say.
As for the Reading Eagle Editor, why won’t you publish the letters you have received regarding Hometown? Why are you censoring? What are you afraid? Possibly your Comcast stock ownership value falling?
This will never appear in the Reading Eagle as the Editor will censor this as well.
Dear Anonimous
The Borough of Kutztown is also an Electric Company and Borough Residents are not free to choose PP&L or Met Ed. The Borough has a monopoly which is why they charge double the going rate to subsidize Hometown Utilicom. The Borough does not publicize the amount of funds moved in one scheme or another to HU.
I live in PPL territory and Service Electric and Verizon. When my power goes out, its not minutes, or hours, sometimes 1 to 2 days and there I can't go running to the PPL and demand to know what is going on. Verizon is a 3 day service call and if they find the problem is not outside, I am charged $90 for the service call. When my cable modem does not work which is every Sunday afternoon, I get a busy signal until 8 or 9 at night.
Yes! this is the service I love to have. It is the best. Every month when I write my check to each of them, I praise the lord for their MONOPLY.
Wake up whomever you are, the private lock on rates for all PPL, METED and other power utilities will be lifted and unless you have been living in a cave, those that have already come off have reached 60% increases.
I wish I had choice for any of my services, at least I would have leverage to get faster than 2 day service.
Dear PP&L customer take your monthly electric bill and divide the cost of electricity by the number of kilowatts and you will find your cost per Kilowatt is about ten(10) cents. Kutztown Borough residents pay about twenty (20) cents. Borough residents can not shop for electricity because the Borough owns the electric company.
I am amazed at how many borough citizens have such a hard on against the borough. Do any of you compainers do anything but complain? If you feel so wronged, you car run for an elective position, or apply for a appointed position. Where are all the naysayers? Who are all the naysayers? Step up to the plate. Get your facts STRAIGHT, and go to work to rectify your miserable Kutztown living conditions.
